The other night I was reading to Marin in her bed and looked over to see a bag packed with some clothes and things hanging from her closet handle.Me: You going somewhere sweetie?Marin: I just wanted to have somethings ready in case something bad happens.Me: Like what?Marin: A fireMe: Don't worry, if there was a fire I would wake up and help you.Marin: (and the tears began to flow) But I'm scared because daddy isn't here. (Aaron was out of town at the time).Me: Don't cry Marin. Your dad sleeps like the dead and most likely I will be the one who knows something is wrong.Marin: Ok, I just really miss daddy.Marin is so sweet and tenderhearted. I find myself saying quite often to her "what would I do without you?" She reads her scriptures at night in bed, sings her heart out in primary, is so kind to her friends at school. She is a great example to me. And the bag had all the essentials in it: horse blanket, horse book, a dress and so on.
Ashton is picky eater. There isn't much at dinner that gets him too excited. The other night he had this horrible look on his face when he came to the table. I threw out the guilt trip. I told him there was a earthquake in Haiti and the kids there haven't eaten for several days and they would absolutely love to eat whatever was placed before them. It worked for a little while and then I paid the price for giving him a guilt trip. He woke up in the night saying he had a nightmare that there was an earthquake and we were all sad and crying. So of course he climbed into bed with us and I got kicked in the back and smacked in the face all night long. AWESOME!!!!
So last Sunday Aaron was out of town and Sunday morning I remembered that Ashton was supposed to give a talk in Primary. Mesa was sick and I was sending the kids to church with the neighbor. I told Ashton that it would be fine if he got up and bore his testimony and talked about why he loves Jesus. I guess Ashton was too nervous to do it without Aaron or me there and he decided to tell everyone why he wasn't prepared," I don't have a talk because my dad is at a football game at the place where you watch it"(Aaron was in Texas for business and caught a Dallas Cowboys game while he was there.)I honestly had nothing to do with it, Ashton just felt he needed to explain himself! (which is totally fine with me.)
Marin got a lifesaver book from her grandma and grandpa and as she was opening it she curiously says "Why do they call them lifesavers, they don't help anything?"Ashton was watching me put my apron on to make some sugar cookies and lovingly says "yea, woman you better put that apron on."I was picking up Greyson's sippi cup to wipe off the greasy fingerprints and he shouts " Don't touch that, mom!"If Mesa could talk she would probably tell me how bored she is sometimes and wishes she could go on a vacation!
